Case Study 6
Case in Point #6: A Major Aerospace Company Isolates the Root Cause of a
Problem, Avoiding a $2.5 Million Repair Cost
An aerospace company, one of the largest companies traded on the New York
Stock Exchange, was having a vibration problem in one of its aircraft. The
solution had been to replace the entire engine, but this was a very expensive
solution - and without understanding the root cause of the problem, they were
not sure that this drastic action was necessary.
How PredictionProbe Solutions Helped
After systematically sampling about a dozen engines and running a
Probabilistic Analysis, they easily isolated the component where the problem
originated. Once this root cause was identified, it was only necessary to
replace the small component - not the entire engine.
Result
The resulting cost of the fix was only $1000, as opposed to the $2.5 Million
original cost of the engine replacement.
